Discover the Transfagarasan Road and Balea Lake

Experience one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world on this full-day private tour along the famous Transfagarasan Road and Balea Lake. Your journey begins with pickup from Brasov and a scenic drive toward the Southern Carpathians. As you climb higher into the mountains, the landscape transforms into dramatic alpine scenery with winding hairpin turns, steep valleys, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints. When the Transfagarasan Road is open (typically July to October, weather permitting), you'll drive the full route all the way to Balea Lake, a stunning glacial lake located at over 2,000 meters above sea level, with scenic stops along the way and free time to explore the lake shore. When the road is closed for winter (typically October/November to June, dates vary with snow conditions), Balea Lake is still reachable by cable car. You'll drive to Balea Cascada, then ride the cable car up to Balea Lake in around 15 minutes, gliding above the frozen valleys of the Fagaras Mountains. Cable car tickets (approx. 160 RON / ~€32 per person, round trip) are not included in the tour price. The itinerary automatically follows whichever route is available on the day of your tour. Please note: the cable car is operated by a third party and is weather-dependent; if it is closed due to severe conditions, we cannot guarantee reaching Balea Lake, though we will adapt the itinerary as best as possible.
